The Aeneid

Being who I am and the characteristics I have, I'm not the most interested person in literature. I don't have a keen ear or mind to analyze literature and understand the deeper meanings of the writings we read. I would like to contribute some of my opinions but I don't think what I have to say is relevant to these stories at all. I only take these texts at surface value. I dont see the deep and intentional meaning that Virgil was portraying in the story. Sometimes I think scholars and professors alike tend to OVER analyze literature. Who's to say that Virgil wrote the Aenied as a retaliation to Greek culture. Call me crazy but I think the only person who can really say what the meaning of the story is about is Virgil. Now I understand people have there own interpretation, but I read for enjoyment not to be analytical.

  1. This is the only blog I have read so far that I can relate to. I have never been the one to like, understand, or even read literature. I simply just do not like it. If I ever read anything is just because I like it, not because im looking forward to finding hidden meahings in the text. I agree, Virgil is the only one that knows exactly what he ment by his works, and teachers can tend to over analize the texts. In my opinion, that is just what they like to do and I leave it to them to do it because it is deffinitely not for me.
